Talar Made 4-Kids
Talar Made 4Kids Orthotics are designed to act as a simple shoe insert to prevent excessive lowering of the arch in children's feet and to maintain the heel in a vertical position. In this way natural support of the foot and the legs is maintained and symptoms simply resolve. Orthotics are often only used for a short period of time until patients reach skeletal maturity. By using the 4Kids orthotic the need for expensive custom made insoles can be avoided, whilst the child's feet continue to develop and still remain symptom free.
Wearing in Period
A wearing in period must be allowed to give the child time to get used to the orthotic, however it is not unusual to notice an immediate beneficial effect. It is important to review each child on a regular basis, particularly after periods of rapid growth to ensure correct sizing of the orthotic.
Talar Made 4Kids orthotics are available in a standard length which allows accommodation in most children's shoe styles. It is important that children are fitted with shoes that have adjustable fastening, provide good heel stability and have a flexible shoe.
How long will they last?
The length of time the 4Kids orthotics lasts will vary between the children and this depends on a number of factors including weight and activity level. However, around 4-5 months is the average providing the child does not outgrow them. The products life will be maximised if they are properly cared for.
Can they be cleaned?
4Kids orthotics should be cleaned regularly to prolong their life expectancy. The best way to clean the devices is to gently sponge them with warm, soapy water and then dry with a paper towel. Do not soak for long periods of time or dry artificially.
What should I do if symptoms continue?
It may take some time for children to derive full benefit from a foot orthotic. If your child's symptoms deteriorate, you should return to discuss the problem with their original prescriber as soon as possible.
It is especially important that your child is reviewed every 2-3 months by their prescribing practitioner to ensure their orthotics are still providing the correct level of support and that their natural foot function is being restored.
